Five villages saved, now Lützerath is missing
24.11.2021 The new coalition agreement says: “We want to preserve the villages in the Rhenish mining area affected in the third resettlement phase. The courts will decide on Lützerath.” This means that the villages of Berverath, Keyenberg, Kuckum, Oberwestrich and Unterwestrich are saved. A huge partial success for the Garzweiler villages, which makes many residents cheer. Waltraud Kieferndorf from Menschenrecht vor Bergrecht says: “On the one hand, I feel immense relief and joy about the rescue of our home, but on the other hand I am devastated that Lützerath is to be further bulldozed for climate-toxic lignite.”
